Classical Ukulele: Grade 1, Part 2

This is a continuation of the grade 1 Classical Ukulele class. In this class, we will be continuing to work on the pieces from the Grade 1 Classical Ukulele book. We will continue to work on PIMA fingerpicking technique, strengthen both hands with scales and exercises, and dive deeper into the beauty of classical music on the ukulele. Please note: This is part 2 of this class. We will be starting halfway through the grade 1 book.
Pre-Requisites: This is an intermediate level class. You should already have experience reading musical notation or TAB and some experience with PIMA style fingerpicking. Not sure if this is the right level for you? Send Catherine a message!

This year is Blue Rodeo’s 40th anniversary. Celebrate the music of this beloved Canadian band while building your ukulele skills! While learning some of the band’s most popular songs, we will also work on:
building chord vocabulary
strumming and singing at the same time
picking some melodies/riffs or adding a fancy strum
During each lesson, Catherine will teach a beginner friendly version of the song and then offer some ways you can spice up your playing for more advanced players.

How to tune, hold and strum your ukulele
Beginner friendly chords and chord progressions
How to strum and sing at the same time
The songs we will learn are perfect for creating magical musical moments with the little ones in your life!

Introduction to Reading Musical Notation for Ukulele Players

Unlock the world of written music and bring your ukulele playing to a new level! In this class, Catherine introduces players to the fundamentals of reading standard musical notation. Each week, we’ll work on learning how to recognize notes on the staff, connect them to the ukulele fretboard, and play simple melodies with confidence. No prior knowledge of music theory is required - just bring your ukulele, enthusiasm and curiosity!
In this class we will work on:
learning the basics of musical notation and rhythm
match notes on the musical staff to the ukulele fretboard
learn beginner fingerpicking techniques and play melodies directly from sheet music
build the foundation to continue exploring more advanced music reading and ukulele fingerpicking
