Let’s make music together!
Hi! I’m Catherine (aka CatPlaysUkulele). I’m an artist, musician and teacher who believes that music is for everyone. Since 2018, I’ve been teaching ukulele, and I’m proud to be a Level 3 JHUI certified ukulele teacher.
My musical journey began with playing violin/fiddle and piano as a child. Then, in 2011 I picked up the ukulele “just for fun” and I never put it down. There’s something so special about this little instrument. It’s joyful and approachable, but it can also be a serious instrument that is great for learning music and bringing people together.
Currently, I am the Uke 1 section leader with the Ukulele Orchestra of Toronto and am hoping to start a new ukulele orchestra in Sudbury in 2026. I love arranging music for friends, students and fellow ukulele players.
In March 2021, I was interviewed by James Hill for his Uketropolis podcast where we talked about how I blend mindfulness with teaching the ukulele. Then in 2024, I was featured on the Uketropolis blog where I share my experience about how to teach ukulele online. I have also been part of James’ team of mentors for ukulele teachers-in-training since 2021.
In addition to my ukulele teaching, I’m also an Ontario Certified Math teacher (OCT). But for some reason, people like coming to my ukulele classes more than my math classes.
